I will be putting items of interest from the front page onto here - look below to see what was going on in previous years.
News Bulletins - 2019
SUMMER SINGLES & DOUBLES - The finals of these have been played and Randa & Elisabete were winners of the doubles and Sue Francis won the singles. Well done!
T
Christine organised the
Ladies Invitation Day Tuesday 16th July was a great success where we invited a golfer from another club to play 18 holes. We had a superb halfway house arranged by Anna and Andrew Eldred, ably assisted by Anne Dupres. The buffet meal afterwards was lovely and we even had strawberries & cream! There were prizes to give out and the overall winners were Rosie Christie and her partner Michelle Singleton.

CRYSTAL BOWL: TUESDAY 14TH AUGUST. What a great day. the weather was kind; not too hot and not too cold. Chris Davies won the Crystal Bowl and she and her daughter Gemma Kinsey won first prize, with Louise and her partner Roger coming second on count back. The best putter with 17 putts was Max Cartwright, Geraldine's partner. Nearest the pin on the 6th was Di Hunter and nearest the pin in 2 on the 9th was Rosie Christie. But well done to everyone who took part.
CHARITY DAY was a huge success. Lots of thanks to all those who put in so much effort and time to make OUR charity day such a success. Especially Joy and all the cake producers, jar and bottle donators and the squares board has never been so full. The ladies tombola, cake and savoury stall and raffles always earn a lot of money as well, so thanks to those who couldn't resist buying our wares. Too many to thank but well done everyone! From your Captain Louise.
HANDICAP REVIEW 2018 - this year's handicap review has now taken place using the new CONGU handicapping rules as of 1st January 2018. The main change has been to extend all handicaps to a maximum of 54 rather than 28 for men and 36 for ladies. This has meant that some ladies may well have gone up more than the usual 2 shots.
The WINTER eclectic 2017-18 (click for details) was taken from the best 10 cards played over the winter months on Thursdays and Saturdays. Up to 10 cards can be used, signed off by a committee member, with the word ECLECTIC at the top and your name but don't forget to put the date on it when you use it. Hand your completed cards to one of the Competition Committee who will make a report of everyone's best score on each of the 18 holes over the winter. The overall winner will collect an award at the following AGM.

The winner of the first division was Joy Tilley and winner of the second division was Gill Love. The Order of Merit (OOM) winner was also Gill Love - so well done Gill. The OOM is taken from your position on the leaderboard at each qualifier you enter, from 1st down to 8th and your best 10 positions over the summer were used.

SUMMER KNOCKOUTS 2016 - FINALS
The Summer Singles final was won by Zara Cox with Tricia Hughes as runner-up. The Summer Doubles has been won by Sue Hunt & Doreen Benson, runners-up were Shirley Luckman & Rosemary Golby. The Plate final was won by Maggie Stansfield with Tuula Rayment as runner-up.
All of our Medal qualifying games give you the opportunity to become the England Golf Medal winner for the year and you get to play in a prestigious England Golf competition.
Your best 10 qualifiers that you play also gets you on the Order of Merit table (OOM). This is taken from the position you came in the competition, 10 points for a win, 8 for 2nd, 6 for 3rd etc down to 8th place for 1 point.
The Crystal Bowl was played on Tuesday 16th August which was won by one of our newer ladies, Christine Henderson. It was a lovely day, and very well organised by my Vice-Captain Tricia Hughes and some of the non-golfer friends who came to do the putting were interested in taking up the game.
We had the 2nd leg of our match against the Seniors on Thursday 4th August which we lost 4-3. The first leg we also lost 4½ -2½ so overall the Seniors won the Cup again. On Saturday 6th August we had a match against Redhill & Reigate ladies which we won 3-1. They were such a nice group of ladies and were complimentary about our course.
We played our annual match against the Edenbridge PROBUS gentlemen at Villa Golf on Wednesday 31st August 2016 and narrowly lost on overall points 25-32 so we had to hand the Cup back to them this year after having won it the previous few years.
The Tri-Match with Copthorne and Effingham Park was played on Thursday 8th September 2016 at Effingham and the winning 'team' was Ann (from Effingham), Judith (from Copthorne) and our own Dawn Davids. This match will be played at Copthorne next year.
Qualifying Games April-October - 2 Medal and 2 Stableford each month with a Tuesday 9-hole qualifier the first Tuesday of each month. Trophies will be awarded to the winners each month. You do need an active handicap to enter these competitions. Tricia Hughes will be organising the Tuesday Qualifiers. The Thursday and Saturday qualifiers are organised by our Competition Committee, Anne Dupres, Maggie Stansfield, Jo Stone and Rosie Christie.
The SUMMER Eclectic starting in April through to October has been done automatically by the computer working out your best score on each of the 18 holes from your cards entered into the computer from all the qualifying games played during the summer. Look on the noticeboard where the results will be displayed at the end of each month. The overall winner from Division 1 and Division 2 get an award at the AGM.
SUMMER KNOCKOUTS - Please make sure you get your games in before the cut-off dates. A note to all new winter members who get an initial handicap in the coming months, you will have to have played in 3 qualifying competitions before entering the ladies' knockouts. So get your cards done and put your names down for the winter knockouts in October.
The PEUGEOT qualifying games were held on Thursday 26th and Saturday 28th May. The winning pair were Maggie Stansfield & Sue Hunt who will go forward to the Regional Final. They had chosen to play at East Brighton on Monday 25th July - they had a lovely time, really liked the course and had fun while they were there.
The team of 6 who went to Cuckfield Saturday 23rd July made a valiant effort to win their games but unfortunately we lost 4-0 - however, it was a lovely day and the Cuckfield ladies were great to play with.
Thank you to all the ladies that played on Invitation Day - it was great fun. A big thank you too, to Anna Eldred and her husband Andrew who laid on a halfway house with Pimms and Cider; to Rosemary Golby who made up the sweetie tubs and to Kay and Sylvia in the kitchen who gave us a lovely buffet. The winners were Helen Phillips and her partner Lorraine Everard.
CHARITY DAY was a great success - thank you so much to all the ladies who brought in bottles, jars and golf items and baked cakes. We raised £535 from these, so well done to everyone who contributed and to the girls who manned the stalls during the day. The overall total was just over £3,000. The weather was cool but dry and it was great that Louise Vincent and her family won the Team Golf with 132 points, on countback from some very disappointed men (shame!). Vicky Searle won the first prize on the Squares Board - £200 - well done Vicky. The list of the winners from the Squares Board raffle is up on the Events Board just inside the bar - check and see if you won anything. Ask in the Pro Shop if you are one of the lucky ones.
The ladies holiday to Stoke-by-Nayland in May was a huge success. The weather was great, the hotel was good, the food was lovely and the company was brilliant. A few photos here (photos). A great many thanks went to Lesley Silsbury, our Social Secretary, who organised everything so well - we are really proud of her!
WINTER KNOCKOUTS - Singles and Doubles - The doubles was won by Sue Hunt & Doreen Benson against Mary & Kerry Davis-White. The singles was won by Mary Davis-White beating her partner Kerry!
DAILY MAIL Qualifiers - this was held on Thursday 5th and Saturday 7th November. although I believe the Saturday was a washout. Sue Hunt & Jo Stone got through and played the first round at Chartham Park and won 7/5 - well done you two. They played Copthorne here at Horne on 4th April but unfortunately lost.
The PING PAIRS competition and the winning pair will be put forward for the Regional Final but we haven't had high enough results in the past to get that far. However, Ping do send prizes to our first and second pair.
The WINTER eclectic is now complete - see the report on the noticeboard to see where you came in the list.
MATCHES - Our first match of the season was on Tuesday 12th April against Holtye away and the ladies won 3-1. Well done to the ladies who played! We then had the match against the Horne Park Seniors on Thursday 21st April. The format was Foursomes and we had a tough time but not too bad - we lost 4½-2½ but the games were fun and the seniors were charming and are looking forward to our return match later in the year.
The match against Cuckfield was a really great game on Thursday 12th May and the match was halved 2-2. The match against Limpsfield Chart on Wednesday 1st June here at Horne was cancelled by Limpsfield Chart! Also, the match against Foxbridge at Horne was cancelled - both due to lack of players from the other clubs..
Some of the ladies joined in the mixed match against Cuckfield here on Sunday 24th April and we managed to beat them 4-3 but we might have trouble beating them in the return match at Cuckfield in August. If you want to join in mixed matches look on the main noticeboard just inside the front door.
News Bulletins - 2015
I hate to rub it in but those of you who were not able to play in the
'Crystal Bowl' competition (18th August) missed a great day. Joy organised a
fantastic afternoon of golf with prizes, followed by a lovely cream tea.
As for the scones,
once again Fran Cornhill was our star baker. Yum!
Unfortunately Joy is playing so well that she won her own event
and went home with the treasured bowl!
Her game was assisted by Jack (age 12)
who had apparently been drafted in at the last second to take the place of Joy’s
injured 'putter'. No- one believes that. She has clearly been sending him
to 'Putt Club' for months, because he only
just lost the best putter prize on
countback with 20 putts. The prize
for the best 'putter' went to Lesley Blake, friend of Rosie Christie -
well played Lesley. Thank you to all of you for getting involved with the day,
you are all lovely. (and yes of course, all of you who could not be involved are
lovely too!) (you should not need to ask!). Mary x
Ladies Invitation
day (7th July) was a great success with 36 ladies let loose on the course.
Just a few
things……On 7th May we beat Cuckfield at home 4 / Nil.
Come on Horne ladies! Thank you to all who
played and to the two reserves. Our
next match is At Limpsfield Chart and is for the higher handicaps (25 plus I
think, but someone will correct me
I am sure!).
The match is on the 3rd June and the list is up in the cloakroom. Please do sign
up as
soon as possible if you want to play in this match. I think
that most of you have the new purple jumper
(and wonderful we all look, I must say so), but if anyone missed the first order
and would now like a jumper please email or talk to me by next
week. For those going on the golfing holiday on
the 18th, I hope you are all suitably excited. Happy golfing. Mary x

There will be no bookings typed in on the tee sheets in advance as had been the case in the past. Members will be available to book a tee time up to 2 weeks in advance. The only exception to this new rule will be in cases of Club Matches or Inter Club Knockouts where these will be pre-booked.
